As a student, I founded the Dundee University Poker Society, which I chaired for three years. I also discovered a love for horse racing, after visiting the racecourse at nearby Perth. These experiences inspired me to work in the gambling industry. I started at the bottom, as a cashier in a William Hill betting shop, before joining EDITEC – Africa’s largest retail sports betting operator – in London.I started out as an odds setter, but grew with the business. In six years, I also worked in product development, then retail product management, before eventually launching the company’s first ever online gambling websites. In 2016, I left for the Philippines, joining the AsianLogic group. Initially, I worked for MegaSportsWorld – the country's number one sportsbook at the time – before moving to Kenya to rescue the ailing Dafabet operation.I returned to Manila in 2019 to launch a brand new retail sports betting brand, though COVID-19 threw a spanner in the works. After a short stint as country manager for LiveScore Bet in Nigeria – and plenty of soul searching – I chose to leave operations management behind. Instead, I would travel the world as a writer.I’d always loved to write – particularly about casino, poker, soccer and horse racing – and had been creating gambling content on a part-time basis since 2010. The decision to become a freelance iGaming writer was, therefore, a natural one.
